Do you realize the importance of a healthy digestive system? In today’s world, many of us are under a lot of stress, whether it stems from work, daily life, relationships or other things. During this talk with Suzanne Woomer, ND, L.Ac., we will discuss stress’ effect on our digestion system, ways to improve digestion, and the signs and symptoms that you may not be absorbing your nutrients as well as you could be.
In the past, stress was a defense mechanism of the body–such as running away from a tiger that’s chasing you. However, as we have evolved, so have the stressors. What was a good protective mechanism in the past has now drastically impacted our digestive system. For instance, when you are eating, are you stressed? Do you know stress diverts blood flow to the limbs, away from the organs of digestion? This can manifest in physical symptoms of bloating with meals, changes in bowel movements, feeling tired after eating, low energy and food sensitivities. The health of the digestive system can also manifest with skin conditions.
Dr. Woomer is a naturopathic physician and licensed acupuncturist. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Her goal as a physician is to uncover the root cause of illnesses through physical exams, dietary dialogue and up-to-date lab testing. Treatments include homeopathic remedies, supplements, acupuncture and dietary counseling.
