Event: Monthly Meeting: Genetic Roulette – Movie Screening and Discussion about GMOs

June 15, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. The U.S. government, on the other hand, has approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit from their sale. As a result, GMOs are in up to 80% of conventional processed food in the U.S. The rise of GMO use follows the same rise of at least 22 diseases in the U.S. Is this a coincidence? Join us to watch the documentary film Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of Our Lives, followed by a discussion about GMOs.
